Our public libraries hold in their collections thousands of treasures. Beyond their own holdings, they can reach out to other libraries around the world to borrow for their patrons the titles they require. Through a public library you have access to everything you need. The internet is a terrific source for research, but not everything you read on-line is reliable. Consequently, while in the research stage for a book I read everything I can find, both on-line and off and with each article, chapter, book, photograph, song, advertisement, movie, memoir, etc., I build an increasingly more solid sense of the world I’m trying to re-create. But, bottom line, nearly every writing project begins at my local library.
