Though the effects of the Dirty Thirties were felt in many places and in many ways, the panhandle of Oklahoma seemed to be the epicenter of the Dust Bowl.
(FYI, this image was taken in Nevada, not Oklahoma.)
if the story is in oklahoma then why do you have a picture of nevada
A very simple explanation…I don’t have a photograph of Oklahoma. As soon as I have one I’ll replace this image. Thanks for being so observant.
While reading your novel, I put this song together for my students. Great book, thanks
What wonderful work you and your students have done, Mr. E. I’m sitting at my desk applauding you all. Thank you.
Greetings from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma,
We were talking about what Pa would be singing about; therefore, I got out my “geetar” and the students wrote “Pa’s Dust Bowl Blues”. These students wanted me to send this to you.
Here is Pa’s Dust Bowl Blues link:
You all have “given me the blues” in the best possible way. Thank you!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxM51ApLX34&feature=share&list=UU1RWvAA1bfdpv6aGuzaslWw Mrs. Hesse, we just finished your book, and we had a Dust Bowl Day to end our reading journey here in Oklahoma! Thanks for the response….my kids thought is was “cool” that you replied.
I’m one of the students from Evans School that recently sent you a letter. I saw this picture about the dust bowl and was wondering is this why you wrote the book “Out Of The Dust”. About the dust bowl and how horrible their life was?
Please click on the OUT OF THE DUST tab, Madison, and read through the posts until you find your answer.
Thank You! 🙂
